Nearly 50 Animals Seized From Mobile Home
Belleville, WV (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Feb 24, 2011
County: Wood

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Sandra Durkin

A Belleville woman is facing two counts of animal cruelty after a number of dogs and cats were found in her home Thursday.

According to the criminal complaint, Sandra Durkin had about 40 mixed breed dogs, four cats, and a bird in two rooms of a small mobile home.

The document explains at times there were eight to ten animals living in a small kennel that had feces in it which in some cases was several inches deep.

The complaint alleges some animals were diseased and didn't have enough water.

Durkin has since been released on a $1000 bond.

She faces fines and jail time plus the forfeiture of the animals if convicted.

The Humane Society of Parkersburg is caring for the animals and at this time they are not available for adoption.

HSOP officers said they are in need of newspapers, bleach, paper towels, cat litter, soft treats, canned food, and monetary donations to help care for the animals.
