Alleged: 23 year old woman

A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after she told her younger sister during a phone conversation that she had stabbed her dog.

The incident was reported shortly before 10:45 a.m. Wednesday in south Wichita, according to police records. The suspect told her younger sister that she was upset with her boyfriend when the younger sibling heard a loud yelp over the phone.

The suspect then said she had stabbed her dog, Capt. Troy Livingston said. The younger sister went to her sibling's house on Lincoln and took the terrier to an emergency veterinarian for care.

The dog, named Roxy, had a stab wound in its side more than three inches deep, Livingston said.

The suspect was arrested shortly after 11 a.m. Once the dog has recovered enough to be released from the vet clinic, Livingston said, authorities hope to place it with a canine foster care family.
