Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
A puppy that was left for dead in a dumpster is recovering at the La Plata County Humane Society.
The puppy, nicknamed 'Benjamin Button,' was found in a large dumpster in an alley between Seventh and Eighth streets behind Durango Natural Foods near College Drive Friday night. Officials believe it was placed there sometime between 4 p.m. and midnight Friday.
"It certainly couldn't have gotten there on its own. (It's a) very tiny puppy," Chris Nelson, shelter director for the La Plata County Humane Society, told the Durango Herald.
Anyone with information is urged to call 970-385-2900 or the shelter at 970-259-2847. Nelson said a reward is being offered for good leads.
Nelson said the puppy, which appears to be a dachshund mix, was very ill at first but is improving. The Humane Society plans to make Benjamin Button available for adoption once he recovers.
