A puppy that was left for dead in a dumpster is recovering at the La Plata County Humane Society.

The puppy, nicknamed 'Benjamin Button,' was found in a large dumpster in an alley between Seventh and Eighth streets behind Durango Natural Foods near College Drive Friday night. Officials believe it was placed there sometime between 4 p.m. and midnight Friday.

"It certainly couldn't have gotten there on its own. (It's a) very tiny puppy," Chris Nelson, shelter director for the La Plata County Humane Society, told the
