A man was charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly shot a pit bull, according to the Shenandoah County Sheriff's Office.

Guy Lewis Pence, 56, of 759 Ridge Hollow Road, Edinburg, was arrested Jan. 25, according to Maj. Scott Proctor He is accused of shooting a female pit pull in the left front leg Jan. 20.

Pence is scheduled to appear in Shenandoah County General District Court on March 18.
