Harvey County Sheriff's officials are investigating the case of a dog that was shot on Jan. 13 in its owner's yard at 22531 S.W. 84th St. near Burrton.

The owner of the Labrador/ Weimaraner mix came home on Jan. 13 to find a trail of blood leading up to her house.

At the end of the trail, Ashley Morris found her dog, Cena, covered in blood.

The dog had been shot in the face and leg with 22 or 32 caliber slugs, Harvey County Sheriff T. Walton said.

Cena survived the shooting, but Morris said the dog is limping and having difficulty eating.

Sheriff's officials believe the dog was shot from a vehicle, Walton said.

The only lead sheriff's officials have in the case is a report from Reno County law enforcement of people in a blue van firing guns from the van in that area.

A Reno County sheriff's deputy responded to the area of the report but did not find the van.

If suspects are found in this case, they could be charged with felony animal cruelty
