Starved dog discovered during search warrant
Washington, DC (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Oct 20, 2010
County: District of Columbia

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Najha Phillips

The Washington Humane Society reports that Najha Phillips, 37 years old plead guilty and was convicted of animal cruelty on December 6th. She was arrested on Wednesday, October 20th for animal cruelty for allegedly neglecting her dog.

Her one and a half year old dog, "Gucci" was found severely underweight. The Doberman mix weighed just 40 pounds; he had lost 25% of his normal body weight, when he was discovered by WHS Humane Law Enforcement Officers in September.

Gucci, went for about a year with sporadic and inadequate amounts of food. But thanks to plenty of scheduled feedings of adequate amounts of food and lots of TLC from our WHS staff, Gucci, now renamed "Goonie", has gained all his weight back and was adopted in November.

Humane Officers discovered Goonie while assisting Metropolitan Police Department Officers, who were executing a search warrant at the 500 block of Oneida Place, NW, Washington DC.
