An Aurora woman was arrested Wednesday on 22 counts of animal neglect and other charges following a search of her property.
About 9 a.m. Wednesday, Fayette County Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant at 6238 40th St., Aurora, stemming from an animal neglect investigation.
As a result of the search warrant, 22 dogs and three cats were rescued. Arrested at the scene was the animal's owner Susan Rose Purcell-Varnell, 56.
She faces 22 counts of animal neglect, duty to dispose of dead bodies (four dogs) and dealer and commercial breeder's license violations.
She was taken to the Fayette County Jail where she will appear before a magistrate.
Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Cedar Bend Humane Society (animal control), Iowa State University of Science And Technology College of Veterinary medicine, and Iowa Department of Agriculture. References |
