A Sugar Hill teenager is in jail after police say he bragged to his roommates about brutally torturing at least two stray cats.
The roommates of 18-year-old Daniel Jeffrey Moore told police they came home on Nov. 16 to find Moore boasting about a cat he had trapped in a garbage can -- after pouring bleach and another industrial cleaner on the stray.
Managing to push Moore out of the way, the pair removed the cat from the trash can, saying it was "unable to stand up or keep its balance," according to police reports.
They took the cat to an animal emergency center in Lawrenceville, where it was in critical condition.
One roommate said Moore also told him that day he had "suffocated another stray cat yesterday by placing the cat in a Tupperware container and securing the lid." Moore allegedly said he had dumped that cat in a creek behind the house on Pinecrest Drive after it died.
After an investigation, Moore was arrested by Gwinnett County Police on Monday and charged with one felony count of cruelty to animals. As of Wednesday afternoon, he had not posted the $11,200 bond required for his release.
Case UpdatesThe man accused of pouring chemicals on a cat was released from jail Thursday night after posting bond, according to Gwinnett County jail records.
Daniel Jeffrey Moore, of Sugar Hill, was charged with animal cruelty after he allegedly poisoned a cat, left it in a trash can and then told his roommate about it, Gwinnett police said.
The roommate checked on the cat, which was taken to an animal clinic for treatment, police said. The roommate, whose name was not released, told police Moore, 18, had bragged about suffocating another cat and dumping the body in a nearby creek.
"We don't know what the motive is behind that at all," Cpl. Edwin Ritter told WSB Radio. "Obviously, it's very disturbing and we're going to make sure he's held accountable for the allegation."
Moore was arrested Monday night and posted $11,200 bond just before 7 p.m. Thursday. | Source: ajc.com - Dec 2, 2010 Update posted on Dec 2, 2010 - 7:56PM |
