The Hawaiian Humane Society was called to the Waikalani Woodlands apartment complex in Mililani this morning to investigate a possible animal cruelty case.
Officials say they have removed 45 cats from the unit.
They are not saying whether any of the animals were found dead.
The apartment had been vacant and neighbors complained of a foul odor coming from the unit.
The previous tenant was evicted but officials are not saying how long the cats had been there without food or water.
The Hawaiian Humane Society has opened an investigation and will look into the possibility of seeking animal cruelty charges.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
