The Navarro County Sheriff's Office made a big bust in a 4-month long investigation into an illegal cock fighting ring.
About 20 officers from the sheriff's office executed a search and seizure warrant at a rural location off of FM 1578 near Navarro Mills Lake at about 3:30 p.m., February 6, 2010.
Officers found at least 15 dead birds and about 150 other roosters set up to fight. About 40 people were detained and dozens more ran away on foot to escape law enforcement.
Justice of the Peace Kirby Hill of Navarro County even set up court at the location where suspects are being processed on charges of gaming or cruelty of animals.
According to the Navarro County Sheriff's Office, those who plead not guilty will be taken to the Navarro County jail and processed.
The SPCA was called into take the more than 150 roosters still alive from the scene. References |
