Dog fatally shot with handgun
Sparks, NV (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Feb 1, 2010
County: Washoe

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Marion Leonard Rogalla

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office reports that Marion Leonard Rogalla was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, discharging a firearm from within a vehicle and killing another person’s animal. His bail is set at $11,580.

The sheriff’s office said Rogalla was filling potholes in the street in the 700 block of Encanto Drive with dirt from the back of his pick up at about 3:15 p.m. He was driving down the street when three dogs ran out of a yard and chased the truck, the sheriff’s office said. Rogalla is alleged to have pulled out a handgun and shot Jasper, a black-and-white mixed-breed dog, who was running near the driver’s side door. Jasper fell and the other two dogs returned home, the sheriff’s office said.

Teenage brothers ran to assist Jasper while their father followed Rogalla in his own vehicle and called authorities. Deputies stopped Rogalla’s truck on La Mancha Drive and described him as uncooperative and intoxicated.
