A 22-year-old Walden man is facing an animal cruelty charge in connection with the alleged abuse of his 12-year-old dog, said Vermont State Police.

Police said Darrin Lakus was investigated for denying his mix breed dog veterinary care after the dog ate garbage. He also allegedly abused the dog while it was sick and vomiting, police said.

Lakus was cited to appear in Vermont District Court on March 16.
