Authorities say they have broken up a cockfighting ring and seized 20 fighting roosters and fighting paraphernalia from a southern Idaho dairy farm.
The Gooding County Sheriff Department says the raid on the farm near Wendell Sunday night led to the arrest of 9 individuals and the seizure of steel leg gaffs, spurs and gambling equipment.
KTVB-TV in Boise also reports that as many as 20 vehicles, some with California license plates, were impounded during the raid.
Local investigators are cooperating with investigators from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Police say they were tipped about the cockfighting by an anonymous caller.
Documents found with the birds indicate they had been transported to Idaho from California, meaning any crimes may qualify for federal offenses.
The rescued birds are now in the custody of the Idaho Humane Society in Boise. References |
