Horse dragged to death behind car
Tippah, MS (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Dec 13, 2007
County: Tippah

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Beau Hill

Lajuan Glidewell says horses are like people... that's why she's so upset over what a relative did to one of these beautiful animals.

It started a couple of weeks ago when her brother in law "Beau" Hill showed up at her house. "Him and his wife been into it and she left him and he couldn't find her so he took it off on the dude's horse." Glidewell explained.

The "dude" is Sam Fleming who lives nearby, and his Horse Tequila got the punishment Fleming might have received.

Glidewell says Hill intended to use the Horse to send a message to Fleming. "When he started to leave he said you tell Sam if he wants "Tequila" you come see Beau Hill, like that." she recalled.

But Sam would never see Tequila alive.

As Hill left the house, Glidewell noticed he had the horse tied to his car.

And as he pulled away from her house, Hill hit the gas.

It gets worse: Hills three children ages 1 to 9 were in the car.

Glidewell tried to follow. "I could see the hoof prints on the road and then I saw 'em draggin the feet then I saw blood." she said.

Even now, two weeks later, you can still see the blood on the highway left as the horse bled to death.

More than a mile away, she saw what was left of the horse laying beside the road, dead.

Its owner buried the horse in a field across from where Hill left it.

Within a few days, law officers arrested Hill and charged him with cruelty to animals, grand larceny, and alcohol possession among other charges.

Glidewell says she'll never forget the torture the horse endured. "I still get a lump in my throat when I go down that road. I can't stand it." she said.

She adds, we're just lucky it wasn't a human that was hurt. At one point, the police report states the horse managed to come loose and get away, but Hill reportedly stopped the car, chased the horse re-tied it to his white Nissan and continued dragging it to it's death.

Hill is in the Tippah County jail tonight, on nearly 16-thousand dollars bond.
