Sick puppies sold over the internet Deland, FL (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 24, 2008 County: Lake
Charges: Felony CTA Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Cheryl Lee Tyler
A woman in DeLand is facing felony charges for selling sick dogs and cats on the Internet. State investigators said most of the dogs were gravely ill.
The animals, specifically dogs and cat, were advertised on the website Tiny-Toyz.com. Tiny Toyz billed itself as a company that specializes in providing quality care to the pets that it adopted out.
State investigators though, said the woman who ran the company, Cheryl Tyler, provided anything but proper care. According to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, she used fraudulent health certificates to sell very sick animals to unsuspecting customers.
The illnesses included ringworm and feline herpes. In one case, she's accused of trying to pass a male cat off as a female and provided a forged health certificate indicating it was a female.
State investigators said they have four confirmed cases involving Tyler, but they are looking into the possibility there are more. She was booked into the Lake County jail facing several felony charges. References |
