Faulkton, SD (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Nov 24, 2006
County: Faulk

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Dixie Codet

A Faulkton woman charged with neglecting her horses appeared in court in Faulk County on Dec 5 morning.

Dixie Codet, 41, faces six counts of inhumane treatment of animals, according to court information. Each count is a misdemeanor punishable by as much as a year in county jail and a $2,000 fine.

Timothy D. Bormann, Faulk County state's attorney, said that in court, Codet asked for time to get an attorney.

Authorities learned that Codet might be mistreating six horses before taking five adult horses and one colt away from her on Nov. 24. A Sioux Falls animal rescue center took the horses.

Bormann said that the horses were malnourished and had other health issues.
