County: James CityDisposition: Alleged
Abuser names unreleased
Police are probing animal cruelty after a pet cat was shot to death in Skipwith Farms.
Police were called April 5 after a family found their cat dead on their property. Williamsburg Deputy Chief Dave Sloggie said police are working leads that a neighbor may be involved.
A search warrant filed Monday at the Williamsburg-James City Courthouse revealed a suspect who lives on Thomas Nelson Lane. The Gazette is not naming him because he hasn’t been charged.
An autopsy performed by veterinarian Dale Sprenkel confirmed the cat was shot with a pellet that pierced the lung and heart.
Neighbors noticed the suspect was spotted pacing in his own backyard on April 4 with “what appeared to be an air rifle.” Police obtained the warrant to search his home for ammo that may match the fatal pellet.
