A New Life for Some of the Colton Cats

The first batch of big cats have been successfully transported to their new homes.  Eleven leopards and both African lions were loaded for the trip to their new permanent sanctuary homes on July 29, 2003.

You can read more about the transportation of the cats at the Press Enterprise:

Or view photos here:

We've made some headway, but the battle is far from over.  Thirty-nine adult tigers remain at the Colton facility (as well as many youngsters at the Fund for Animals' facility in Ramona), formerly owned by John Weinhart and The Fund for Animals is working hard to find new homes for each and every one of them.  There were some ugly rumors floating around, stating that the Fund was going to euthanize the cats if sanctuary homes could not be found.  We would like to state for the record that that is completely unfounded and untrue.  That rumour was started and fueled by John Weinhart himself in his continuing efforts to spread lies to the public to try and cause this rescue effort to fail.

Weinhart's trial has been scheduled for September 22, 2003.  We hope as many people as possible can be in attendance.

The Fund for Animals is still in dire need of volunteers (weekdays especially), donations, and your letters to the media, expressing your outrage at this situation. Go to the SaveTheTigers.Com website for more information on how to help.

Special Thanks

Special thanks go out to Pat Craig of Rocky Mountain Wildlife Conservation Center in Keenesburg, Colorado.  He not only took in several leopards and the two African lions, but he also provided transport for the remaining leopards to their final destination at The Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point, Indiana.  Pat Craig's facility is one of the finest in the country and his willingness to assist during this crisis and his unparalleled expertise in handling the transportation process is nothing short of amazing.  His assistance and skill has been invaluable. You can send an email to the Pat at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Conservation Center at [email protected] - please take a moment to drop him a note and express your thanks for everything he's done to help this effort.

If you'd like to donate or send supportive emails to any of the organizations that have come forward to place some of these cats, their website addresses are available here:

We have gotten about 50 comment submissions to Chuck Traisi so far, but we know there are way more people out there that care about these animals.  Please take a moment to send your comments and let Chuck Traisi and the Fund for Animals know how much you care and support what he's doing:
