Dropped 10 week old puppy off 30 foot balcony - (Portsmouth, EN - UK) Crime Date: 07/00/2001 Case Status: Convicted Abusers/Suspects:
Gill Mettham
Case ReportA woman who threw a puppy from a balcony because it was annoying her has been banned from keeping animals for life. Gill Mettham had pleaded guilty to ill-treating the greyhound puppy. She was given an 18-month community rehabilitation order and fined 100 at Portsmouth Magistrates Court.
Inspectors had found that 10-week-old Molly belonged to 43-year-old Mettham's young daughter and had been living in the Portsmouth flat for two weeks when it was thrown 30ft on to concrete in July.
When interviewed, Mettham said the puppy was whining and yapping on the balcony and she had picked it up and dropped it while she was drunk.
Ms Clark, speaking outside court, said Mettham had teased her four-year-old daughter.
"She taunted the child saying: 'Shall we keep Molly? Shall we not?' before dropping the puppy to its death. At one time she had actually been holding it by its ear." A group of children playing outside the flats saw the dog fall to its death.
