Case ReportA jilted woman who took revenge on her ex-boyfriend by killing his cat and cutting up his clothes in a "fit of temper" has been spared jail. Heather Radley, 33, of Hollingworth, Greater Manchester, was convicted of criminal damage and cruelty to animals by magistrates last month. She systematically cut up her former lover's clothes and killed his Persian cat, Toddy, in an attack at his home.
She went to his home in Hyde while he was on a business trip in Italy and killed his cat, which was found later by a neighbour lying in a pool of blood on the living room floor. She admitted criminal damage but denied harming the cat, which was killed by either a kick or a blow to its side. Radley maintained that she did not know what had happened to the pet but was convicted by magistrates following a day-and-a-half trial last month.
Sentencing Radley magistrates told her: "We believe you did kick this cat causing it to die and experience unnecessary suffering. "However, we believe it was not your intention to cause fatal injuries. We think you carried out this act in a fit of temper."
She was ordered to carry out 180 hours community service and pay compensation of 487.89 and 500 towards court costs by magistrates in Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester. The court was told Radley, a business adviser, wanted to "hurt" former partner Ken Dawson following the break-up of their seven-month relationship in November last year.
