County: Chesterfield

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Deputies charged 46 people in a cockfighting bust Saturday afternoon on Highway 145 in McBee, according to Chesterfield County Sheriff Robert Lee.

Officers seized 132 chickens, Lee said.

The suspects are from all over the state and North Carolina and face Cockfighting charges.

Lee said they expect to file additional charges against a man considered to be the ringleader.

A tip led deputies to the location where chickens were fighting in two makeshift rings, according to Lee.

Ten chickens were already dead and Lee said two died in police custody.

The surviving chickens will be evaluated and of they're found to be ok, they will be placed up for adoption.

The Chesterfield County Animal Control Division is working with the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office in this investigation.
