more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

A man and woman in Muskogee County are charged with felony animal abuse for allegedly killing and skinning a puppy.

Authorities say 26-year-old Austin Mullins took the 7-week-old terrier to a park and shot it at least 10 times. Investigators say the animal was then given to 23-year-old Krystal Lewis who skinned it.

Sheriff's deputy George Roberson says Lewis wanted to make a belt out of the hide.

Both Mullins and Lewis face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Case Updates

A Muskogee woman charged in connection with the shooting and skinning of a puppy was given a three-year suspended sentence and ordered to pay a $500 fine.

Krystal Lynn Lewis, 24, entered a blind plea to the charge of cruelty to animals, according to court records.

Austin Michael Mullins, 27, was accused of shooting Lewis’ 6-week-old puppy, Joplin, in June 2009. The puppy was shot 10 times with a .22-cal. pistol.

The small puppy’s pelt was nailed to the back of the patio of an apartment at 1211 Foxcroft Circle. Police said Lewis said she planned to make a belt buckle out of the pelt.

Lewis’ former girlfriend, Jessica Nichols, gave the puppy to Lewis as a gift less than three weeks before its death.

Mullins, who also has entered a blind plea, is set to be sentenced at 10 a.m. May 17, court records show.

AM 740 and FM 102.3 News/Talk KRMG's Steve Berg reports that "crazy" is how Muskogee County officials describe what the two did and, in fact, a judge has ordered a mental compentency evaluation for both 26-year-old Austin Mullins and 23-year-old Krystal Lewis.

Mullins is accused of taking a 7-week old Jack Russell puppy and shooting it at least ten times with a .22 caliber gun. Lewis is accused of then taking the dog and skinning it because she wanted to make a belt. Muskogee County Deputy George Roberson says, "I've worked 'cruelty to animal' cases, 'dog dumping', but never seen anything of this nature.". Both are charged with animal cruelty.
