Sentence: $50,000 bond set in cruelty case of drowning dog during burglary.

On Jan 13, 2000 he was sentenced to up to five years in prison for burgulary. Pettigrew did not admit to killing the dog. He pleaded guilty to ill treatment of animals under a U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed him to maintain his innocence while pleading guilty. Under complicated agreement, Pettigrew also pleaded guilty to three burglaries. Under agreement he must receive psychological counseling and complete 100 hours of community service.
