Convicted: Rapper DMX Charged with Animal Cruelty


Sentence: Under the plea deal, Simmons forfeited all weapons and animals. "We thought this was an appropriate plea based on all the facts and circumstances," said Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Ike Gavzy.

Simmons also must give $15,000 to the Bergen County chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which is to use the money for printed materials, Gavzy said. The Humane Society also may use his image on posters.

Notes:
In 1999, DMX was arrested in his native Yonkers for allegedly roughing up a passing motorist whom the rapper accused of attacking his wife.

In 2001, the he was slapped with several charges outside of Buffalo, New York, in connection with a minor traffic violation. After copping to a misdemeanor count of reckless assault, he served 15 days in jail and paid a $1,000 fine.

In 2002, Simmons cut a deal with prosecutors in New Jersey, agreeing to plead guilty to 13 counts of animal cruelty, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia in exchange for a $15,000 fine and a starring role in a series of public service announcements. That Christmas, he was busted again for failing to signal a lane change and offering cops a phony ID.

In June 2004 after Simmons was collared following a bizarro airport joyride in which he impersonated an FBI agent at Kennedy International Airport, where he and a buddy then allegedly approached another driver and tried to commandeer his vehicle.

DMX pleaded guilty in December to driving under the influence of drugs and reckless endangerment, blaming a heavy dose of Valium for the incident, and was sentenced to one-year conditional discharge. Two weeks later, he was busted for speeding after being clocked by New York State troopers driving 104 mph in a 65 mph zone near the town of North Castle in Westchester County.

In June 2008, DMX was arrested in Miami, Florida after buying cocaine and marijuana from an undercover police officer.
