Sentence: A Thurston County woman has pleaded guilty to first-degree animal cruelty for shooting a dog in the leg in March in the 16000 block of Reichel Road, southwest of Rainier.

Misty Rose Bryars pleaded guilty in Thurston County Superior Court as part of a plea deal. The prosecutor will recommend that she be sentenced to 30 days in the Thurston County Jail, with 10 days' credit for time served, and the remainder of the time spent on work release. She also must pay more than $1,000 in fines.

Bryars must undergo a mental-health evaluation as part of the plea.
