Convicted: Killing and selling endangered animals for meat

Sentence: Czimer plead guilty on Februatry 28, 2003 to purchasing the meat of a black spotted leopard, a violation of the Lacey Act, a federal wildlife protection law in August 1997. Czimer also purchased the carcasses of 16 federally-protected tigers, 4 lions, 2 mountain lions and 1 liger (a tiger-lion hybrid). The animals were then skinned, butchered and sold as lion meat with a profit of over $38,000.

As part of his plea agreement Czimer will pay $116,000 in restitution to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation's Save the Tiger Fund.

His meat market Czimer's Game and Seafoods Inc., in Lockport, IL was burned in protest by the Animal Liberation Front, a national underground group, on April 4th 2003.

the president and operator of Czimer�s Game and Sea Foods at 13136 W. 159th St., who purchased, sold, and offered to sell the meat of exotic animals, including endangered tigers and leopards, to the public, for human consumption. He was charged with five counts of violating wildlife protection statutes
