County: Roanoke City

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Dolly, a pet beagle in Craig County had to get close to 30 stitches and a blood transfusion, after sheriff deputies say she was shot by what looked like an arrow.

Tina Newby says she and her kids had just returned home from football practice last on Nov 1, when they noticed Dolly laying on a pile leaves just across the street from their home.

"I went over there and looked at her I could tell she had a hole in the side of her upper chest part and that there was exit wound too, so I had the get the kids the phone so I could get the sheriff's department."

After a closer look at Dolly's wound, deputies say she was hit by an arrow, Tina then took the little beagle to an animal hospital where they took x-rays to look at any possible internal damage and gave the dog a blood transfusion, the arrow had missed the dog's heart by just an inch.

Now, Dolly is as happy as can be back at home and hardly looks hurt although she's still on antibiotics and pain killers.
