Hoarding over 100 cats, 9 dogs Austin, TX (US)Incident Date: Monday, Nov 6, 2006 County: Travis

What neighbors thought was an animal rescue shelter turned out to be a very serious case of animal hoarding. Workers at Town Lake Animal Shelter spent the entire day cleaning out a home on the 1300 block of Ruth Avenue.
Animal workers impounded more than 100 cats and nine dogs from the home. Neighbors say they thought the home's owner was running an animal rescue.
"Yeah, I thought that maybe she kept a lot of cats there, but I thought maybe she was some kind of a foster program so the cats would come in and out until they could find some kind of home and someone can adopt them," neighbor Thomas Aguilar said.
Right now, the animals are being checked out at Town Lake Animal Shelter.
The owner must face a civil hearing later in the week to decide if she can have the animals back. References« TX State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Travis County, TX
