When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Douglas A. Haselett, a Town of Greene farmer wanted for failing to show up in court to answer to animal cruelty charges, received an early Christmas present this week from Supreme Court Justice Kevin M. Dowd.
Dowd -- sitting in for Chenango County Judge W. Howard Sullivan, who is recuperating from knee replacement surgery -- denied repeated efforts by Chenango County District Attorney Joseph A. McBride to send Haselett, 51, of Jackson Hill Road, to the Chenango County Correctional Facility.
Haselett pleaded innocent this week to grand jury indictments that charged nine counts of cruelty to animals, misdemeanors, and one count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, in connection with putting a dead dog in a freezer. McBride said an autopsy showed the dog was starved to death.
"He was released in September over my objection," McBride said. He had been arrested Sept. 11.
"I do not want to put him in jail over the holidays," Dowd said.
Haselett had been scheduled to appear in county court for his arraignment earlier, but twice missed court dates.
"I don't think he intentionally avoided us," said his attorney, Chenango County Public Defender Alan Gordon of Oxford, adding that Haselett didn't get his court notice "in a timely fashion." Haselett has no telephone and isn't a flight risk, he said.
Gordon said his client depended on e-mail for communication -- public e-mail at Moore Memorial Library in Greene. "He doesn't get to check it every week and he may even have misinterpreted what it said if he did get it," he said.
Haselett in addition to missing two court arraignments, also missed a mental health clinic appointment, McBride said. Haselett was arrested at 1:30 a.m. Dec. 13 on his Town of Greene property and had been ordered held in Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail, which Dowd discharged.
Haselett will still have to undergo a psychiatric examination prior to his next appearance in county court. | Source: Press & Bun Bulletin - Dec 20, 2006 Update posted on Dec 20, 2006 - 10:55PM |
