When Brenda Fleming found two of her cats early Sept 22 morning they weren't acting normal. Brenda says, "I was outside in the wee hours of the morning he finally appeared I parked my car there he just kind of rolled out from under it."

Two of her cats sit and stare with blank dazes. Brenda says they will have to be put down. The body of one dead cat is covered with an old shirt until it can be buried. Brenda tells me someone poisoned them, and more than a dozen others. Her neighbor found the first container of anti-freeze on Tuesday.

Brenda's neighbor found a bowl of anti-freeze near the side of her home.

Brenda found a second container near a wood pile on Sept 21.

Brenda says, "When you have cats and you have dogs they are not only companions, they're there for you a lot of times when no one else is."

Brenda notices a cat that would normally eat her food right away. She fears it's lack of interest may be the sign of another poisoning.

AS Brenda sobs she says, "It was deliberate and now I'm going to lose a lot of my babies."

Animal Control in Alleghany County is investigating and says they have checked on a few leads but have not made any arrests.

The animals are being treated at Greenbrier Veterinary Hospital Dr. Cindy Lightner (304) 645-1476. The cost of the bill is expected to be at least $2,300.00.

Dr. Lightner says it is the first time she has ever seen this many cats at once because of antifreeze poisoning.

If you have any information call the Alleghany County Sheriff's Office at (540) 965- 1770
