Joshua David Ludwick was arrested for dousing the dogs with acid that has eaten gaping holes in their skin and has left one of the dogs blind in one eye.

Madison police arrested Ludwick and charged him with two counts of animal cruelty and one count of criminal trespassing. According to the police report, Ludwick poured the sulfuric acid into a Mountain Dew bottle. But investigators say that the acid was so strong, it quickly began to eat through the plastic. Police had to pour the acid into a glass bottle to preserve the evidence.

Investigators say two neighborhood children told police that the 18 year old bragged about pouring a chemical concoction known as Liquid Fire on the dogs because he believed they were responsible for his own dogs death just days before. Its a charge his mother, Deborah Shaffer, denies. Shaffer claims that that one of her son's friends, not her son, was the one who poured the acid on the dogs, and that the son's friend has since fled the state.

Investigators say there is no evidence to support Shaffer's claim that someone else committed this crime. Ludwick is currently out of jail on bail on a $12,500 bond.
