A 19-year-old Pompano Beach man is facing felony animal cruelty charges after throwing large rocks at a neighborhood cat's head, police said.

Here is what Broward Sheriff's Office spokesman Hugh Graf says about the October 26th attack and subsequent arrest of Jacory Woods:

According to investigators, it was a little before midnight and Woods was hanging out with some friends near his home in the 2300 block of N.W. 4th Court. As a neighborhood girl walked by her faithful feline following behind- Woods picked up two large rocks and threw them at the cat. Both rocks hit the cat in the head. The girl quickly picked up her cat and raced to get it medical attention, and then called BSO.

On Tuesday, BSO detectives tracked Woods down and arrested him. During an interview, Woods told investigators that he clobbered the cat because he thought it and other cats in the area carried disease and parasites.

Despite severe swelling and blood coming from its eye and nose, Grey Goose, the injured animal, is expected to make a full recovery and should return home soon. Woods, however, remains behind bars after a judge increased his bond to $15,000.

If convicted, Woods could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
