Marion M. Capol, 52, and Joseph J. Capol, 27, stepson of Marion Capol were charged with animal mistreatment when they abandoned four dogs, a cat and a caged rabbit in the Travelers Inn Motel & Campground, Durand Avenue, Sturtevant.

The discovery of the abandoned animals occured on April 1, when residents of the motel complained to the manager about barking dogs in a room the Capols had left two days earlier. When sheriff's deputies arrived, they saw the cat and the rabbit in the main area of the room before finding two dogs and two puppies in a windowless bathroom with little clean water and no food.

The dogs had been trying to escape and had made a hole in one wall. An animal control officer said the dogs were dehydrated and might not have survived another day.

It has been reported that Marion Capol is scheduled to appear in a Milwaukee County court on felony charges of animal mistreatment.
