Largo police say when they responded to a call of a disturbance at a home on New York Street in Clearwater on the night of Oct 23, they found a dog and her litter of eight puppies covered by an old washing tub.

Officers arrested Devin Wilson, 18, after learning the dogs belonged to him. They say he fed the dogs sparingly and had not taken them to the vet.

Four dogs died before authorities got involved, and the Humane Society had to put four others to sleep.

Wilson is charged with animal cruelty.
