Dog poisoned with tainted hamburger
Peabody, MA (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Oct 13, 2006
County: Essex

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

Police are looking into allegations that a Peabody man tried to poison his neighbor's dog last week.

Police say that George Siopis came to the station on Oct 13 to report a chunk of poisoned hamburger left in his driveway that morning. Siopis told police that his 12-year-old Shepard named Bobo might have eaten some of the tainted beef.

A test at the Beverly Animal Hospital found some form of poison in the meat, police said. A spokeswoman for the animal hospital declined to comment on the poison found.

Witnesses say neighbor of Siopis was seen near the driveway early that morning, but did not see him place anything on the ground.

Police say the man suspected of the poisoning attempt was recently given tickets for animal violations including unlicensed and unleashed dogs, and unvaccinated dogs. The tickets were issued on Oct. 6, according to police.

No charges have yet been filed and the investigation is ongoing. Police cannot comment if the attack may have been a case of retribution.

"Anytime there is an incident like this involving animals we investigate," said Peabody Police Detective Mike Crane.
