Case Updates

A German shepherd dog shot twice during a Sydney home invasion has been given a bravery award by the RSPCA for defending its owner.

Manuel de Silva was recovering from a back operation in his Kingsford home, in Sydney's east, in October when three men broke iinto his home.

Rocky was shot when he launched himself at the intruders.

Mr de Silva said he owed his life to Rocky.

"He was in front of me when the bullet went through him, and it could have been me, so I'm very grateful to him," he said.

Veterinarian John Culvenor, who looked after Rocky, said the dog had $16,000 worth of treatment after being shot in the face.

After the initial gunshot, Rocky kept attacking the intruders before being shot again.

"I don't think the first bullet would have slowed him down much at all," Mr Culvenor said.

The vet said Rocky was probably 95 per cent of the way through his recovery.
