A woman who works as a receptionist for a veterinarian was charged with animal neglect for allegedly leaving her two dogs locked in her car during hot weather, the City Attorney's Office announced on Oct 12.

Robin Ziskin, 49, of West Los Angeles, was charged with one count of animal cruelty, two counts of animal neglect and two counts of failing to provide adequate food and shelter for her animals.

On July 2, Los Angeles police responded to a report that two huskies were locked in a car for more than an hour in high temperatures and were suffering from apparent dehydration and heat exhaustion.

The temperature in the vehicle was more than 105 degrees. The animals were removed and taken to a veterinarian for care before being returned to Ziskin.

Police were again called on Sept. 7 by residents who said the dogs had been left in the car for more than an hour. Witnesses said they saw the dogs every Sunday at the same location, locked in the car for several hours.

Officers subsequently arrested Ziskin. The animals were again taken into custody and are now in the process of being fostered out pending criminal prosecution of Ziskin.

The case is being prosecuted by City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo's Animal Protection Unit following an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.

If convicted of all charges, Ziskin faces up to 24 months in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.
