Monterey County's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is looking for new homes for the 86 animals it received from a single residence on Fort Ord on Oct 3 night, the agency's spokeswoman reported.
The owner agreed to surrender her animals after the SPCA received a report of a resident who had exceeded the two-animals-per-household limit, spokeswoman Beth Brookhouser reported.
Cats, rodents, birds, amphibians, reptiles and 56 fish were taken into custody by the SPCA, Brookhouser reported.
Many of the larger fish were living in a dirty, unhealthy tank, according to Brookhouser. They included eight beta fish, goldfish, catfish and different types of tetras.
The SPCA reported that the residence had an Amazonian toad, two White's tree frogs, two crested geckos and two leopard geckos.
Anyone interested in adopting any of the animals can call the SPCA at (831) 373-2631. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Monterey County, CA
