A cat abandoned in a locked cage and buried under piles of rubbish for up to a week has been rescued in the New South Wales Hunter Valley.
Mr Mistofolees – named after a magical feline character in the musical Cats – was found "dirty and distressed" in the cage at a dump area in Newcastle, the RSPCA said today.
The cage had been jammed shut with a screwdriver and had been left at the dump area up to a week, the RSPCA said in a statement.
"We saw his cage but thought it was just a dumped cat cage until we heard him crying," said Newcastle City Council park staff member Terry Ford, who was one of three men to rescue Mr Mistofolees.
"We knew he'd been there around a week because of the amount of rubbish that had been dumped on top of the cage."
Mr Mistofolees is recovering in intensive care at the RSPCA's Tighes Hill Hospital. References
