2 horses were severly injured in an alleged act of animal cruelty. Officials say it happened on Sunday morning, August 13th. They claim someone inflicted life threatening injuries on two horses grazing in a pasture on Rick Cross Road in Piney Flats.

Owner Mitchell Parker discovered what had happened to his horses when he went to feed them. One horse had been shot with an arrow that passed completely through the horses hip area, and the second horse had a severe injury to it's neck.

Authorites found a large hunting knife in the field. It had U-S-M-C stamped on it and it was covered in blood.

Detective Landon Bellamy/Sullivan County Sheriff's Department:

"It is very obvious this was not an accident, and if someone who do this to an innocent animal...two horses just grazing in a pasture...i feel they would do this to a human."

Detective bellamy says they do have a person of interest they`re checking into. But, they need the community`s help to solve this case. If you have any information, please contact the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department at 423-279-7506.

The person who did this will face aggravated cruelty to animals charges - that could mean 10 to 20 years in prison.
