An Animal Control Officer was called to 900 block of Hopson Road on 01-25-01 on the report of a dalmation dog in need of immediate medical care.  Upon the Officer's arrival, he spoke to a neighbor that directed him to the back yard of 917 Hopson Road where he found the dalmation lying inside a dog house without a floor.

The dog did not respond when spoken to and was motionless. The Johnson City Police responded and stood by while the animal was removed.  The animal was taken to a local veterinarian.  The veterinarian discoved the animal to be clinically dead but still grasping for breath.

The dog had to be euthanized due to it's condition.  The veterinarian reported the dog as an abuse case suffering from hypothermia.  The dog had a frozen tongue!  The dog's  tempature would not register and it had a weak-irregular heartbeat.  The dog was severly emaciated, eyes were sunken in-ribs very evident, suffering from severe dehydration.  Gordon L. Haws was charged with Cruelty to Animals TCA 39-14-202.
