Police are investigating an incident where a Wanganui man was shot while he was sitting in his car. The incident occurred on Aug 11 at 11.15am in Hackett St, Wanganui.

The man was taken to Wanganui Hospital suffering from shotgun wounds to his side and back. His injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

The man's dog, also wounded, was taken to a vet clinic.

Sergeant Neil Forlong, of Wanganui police, said the bullets went through the car window and hit the man and dog.

"He was obviously extremely lucky not to have been killed," Mr Forlong said.

Police are seeking the whereabouts of Colin Lewis Jackson in relation to the incident.
