Ann Odiorne, 56, who lives on 144 Route 236 was charged with cruelty to animals after an investigation by police of her property.

The 32 animals that were seized on March 25 include dogs, cats, ponies, sheep and Canadian geese. The Cocheco Valley Humane Society assisted the police removing the animals and taking them to their facility.

Odiorne was arrested on March 28 and released on a summons. She is scheduled to appear in Maine District Court on April 13 to answer why she should be able to keep the animals. She is scheduled to appear again on June 15 to answer to the cruelty to animals charge.

Neighbors had complained about seeing rats on her property and that is what caused the police to investigate the situation. When the authorities arrived on the scene, there was garbage visible on the property.

The police said, "When the investigation started, it was clear there was an issue." All the animals were healthy but were not living in good conditions.
