Maria Potts, Elmwood Avenue pleaded no contest to one count of animal cruelty.

She has been found guilty and ordered to pay $50. The Barberton Municipal Court suspended the 90-day jail sentence.

The Summit County Humane Officer said the abuse against her year old border collie, Frisby, was not committed in any form of meanness but was the result of ignorance.

There had been prior times when the county humane officals had been to Potts' home for minor violations, but she had always complied with the officers' requests.

As a result of the complaint on Sept 8 when the officers found the puppy collar embedded in Frisby's neck, the dog was required to undergo surgery to remove the embedded collar.

Potts was ordered to surrender her dog and Frisby is now up for adoption.
