more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

15 Dogs abandoned for one week Fayetteville, NC (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Apr 27, 2003 County: Cumberland
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Jamie Lynn Peterka
Jamie Lynn Peterka, 22, pleaded guilty to 15 misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.
Peterka who abandoned 15 dogs for a week received a sentence of three years probation and was ordered to pay $3,400 restitution. She cannot own any pets during her probation. One dog died; 12 dogs and two cats that were left in the care of Peterka were all malnourished.
Peterka is very remorseful about what happened but didn't criminally intend to harm the animals or their owner, Kristen Jewell, a childhood friend.
"She deeply regrets she caused so much pain for everybody she cares about and for the suffering she caused to the animals."
The dead dog was found locked inside a pet carrier under a carport at 738 Appalachian Drive.
The sheriff's department received information from neighbors which led the sheriff's deputies and animal control offers to investigate on April 27. As a result of the investigation, they removed nine German shepherd puppies, one of the puppies was trapped in a heating vent. Two starving dogs were locked in a bedroom. The two dogs had tried to claw through the door.
Peterka was originally charged with 15 felony counts of animal cruelty.
Peterka was living with Jewell and her husband, David Raggi. When the couple was deployed last winter, Peterka said she would look after the animals.
When Peterka visited a friend in Virginia Beach, she planned to stay one night. On her drive back home from Virginia Beach, her car broke down just outside Virginia Beach. Since Peterka said she didn't have any way to get back to Fayetteville she returned 6 days later on April 25.
The Animal Control Supervisor Lt Jonny Smith, said Peterka should have called the Sheriff's Office while she was stranded in Virginia Beach so they could have made arrangements to pick up the animals. References- Fayetteville NC Observer - Oct 11, 2003
