A man and woman were charged on July 20 with animal cruelty after officers found a puppy in the trunk of a car at Florence Mall, Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said.

David Gerald Lampley, 45, and Kimberly Yarborough Evans, 31, both of 1920 Candy Lane, were arrested and later released on bond.

Lampley told a police officer that he put the puppy in the trunk while he and Evans shopped at Piggly Wiggly because the store wouldnt allow the pet inside and a missing fuse made it impossible to roll up the cars windows, Raines said.
