more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Puppy bludgeoned to death during burglary
New Castle, DE (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Jul 23, 2005
County: New Castle

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Eric J Henry

An 18-year-old man was sentenced to 5 years in prison this morning for bludgeoning a puppy to death last summer on July 23, 2005 during the burglary of a Penn Acres home.

"I want to apologize to the family," said Eric J. Henry before he was sentenced. "I was under a controlled substance. Things shouldn't have gone down like that."

Henry pleaded guilty in April to cruelty to animals and second-degree burglary in the killing of a 7-month-old Labrador retriever named Voodoo. The dog was found beaten to death July 23 2005 inside the home of Nick Dumas – after he and his family returned to their home after a day-trip to the beach.

The trauma of finding their puppy lying in a pool of blood with its skull bashed in has traumatized the family, Dumas told Superior Court Judge Peggy L. Ableman today. Dumas said his family moved from the region, he quit his job and he and his wife are separated. "It was a cruel and senseless act that you committed," Ableman told Henry, adding that she was "sickened by the photographs," of the dead animal.
