Case Updates

Hamden resident Roseann Husted, 43, was arrested earlier this week in New Rochelle, N.Y. on nine counts of animal cruelty stemming from a July 15 incident where police discovered animal remains in her home on 80 Beechwood Avenue.

Deputy Police Chief Bo Kicak, who was the lead officer assigned to the case, said Husted was arrested after New Rochelle police found her sleeping in her vehicle alongside her 15-year-old daughter.

New Rochelle police took Husted into custody after learning she had a warrant for her arrest in Connecticut, Kicak said.

Hamden police and fire officials discovered the body parts of about 10 to 15 dogs and other animals after noticing a foul order coming from her home in July.

Police initially went to the house after receiving a call from a concerned neighbor. Upon arrival at the home, officers witnessed aggressive dogs in the backyard and noticed a stench coming from inside the home.

They then radioed for fire officials and Animal Control Officer Gina Cahill to come to the scene. Further investigation led to their gruesome discovery.

Six dogs were taken alive from the home to a veterinarian. They did not require emergency medical treatment.

Husted was extradited back to Connecticut on Tuesday, when she appeared in Meriden Superior Court, according the Kicak.

The daughter is in the custody of the New York Department of Children and Family (DCF) services, Kicak said.
