A pet owner reported finding his dog shot inside his fenced-in yard on the evening of July 6 and later having to put the animal to sleep because of the injury.

The 43-year-old man told police he discovered his wounded German shepherd about 6 p.m. at his home in the 1500 block of West Washington Street. The dog had been shot in the pelvis and was later put down.

The man's courtyard is enclosed with a cement wall and he wasn't sure who shot the animal, reports said. A bullet was recovered and collected for evidence.
