Horses found to be undernourished at the horse facilities of Iris Hakes. The horses were rescued on Sept 23, 2002 and Hakes was charged with 6 counts of cruelty to animals. Case UpdatesHakes pled guilty and was sentenced on July 29th, 2003. She plea bargained to one count of cruelty to animals, and another charge which was reduced to disorderly conduct. Hakes was sentenced to 5 years probation during which she cannot own any animals and 90 days in jail (suspended provided she follows the terms of her probation.) Hakes must also attend an animal education class as part of her sentencing agreement. Additionally, Hakes must pay a 250.00 fine and must pay restitution to the Capital Area Humane Society. | Update posted on May 28, 2004 - 6:15PM |
